Guadalajara International Airport

Guadalajara International Airport "Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla" (GDL) serves Guadalajara, Mexico's second-largest city and the capital of Jalisco state—birthplace of tequila, mariachi music, and much of what the world considers "Mexican" culture. Located 16 km south of the city center.

The airport has two terminals:

• Terminal 1 (T1): Domestic flights and some international
• Terminal 2 (T2): Primarily international flights

Terminals are connected by a walkway (10-minute walk or shuttle).

Key airlines: Volaris (largest), Aeroméxico, VivaAerobus, American, United, Delta, Alaska, JetBlue, Spirit, and various international carriers.

GDL is south of the city:

• To Centro Histórico: 16 km, 25-40 minutes
• To Zona Chapultepec: 14 km, 20-35 minutes
• To Tlaquepaque: 8 km, 15-20 minutes
• To Zapopan: 20 km, 30-45 minutes

Traffic can be heavy during rush hours.

Uber operates at GDL and is commonly used.

• To Tlaquepaque: MXN 150-200
• To Zapopan: MXN 300-400

Authorized taxis from booths inside the terminals:

• Purchase voucher at fixed rates
• Generally more expensive than Uber
• Reliable and safe

Important: Use only authorized taxis or Uber. Do not accept rides from unofficial drivers.

Macrobús (BRT)

Line 2 connects the airport to central Guadalajara:

• Route: Airport → Central Vieja → Mercado de Abastos area
• Cost: MXN 9.50 (~$0.50)
• Journey time: 45-60 minutes
• Hours: 05:00-23:00

Transfer to Line 1 for Centro Histórico access.

Light Rail (Tren Ligero)

Doesn't reach the airport directly, but connects from Macrobús transfer points.

Taxi Compartido (Shared Taxi)

Budget option to central areas—agree on price before boarding.

Currency: Mexican Peso (MXN). Approximately 18 MXN = 1 USD.

Currency exchange: Available but with poor rates. ATMs give better exchange rates.

Note: Many places accept USD, but you'll get a better rate paying in pesos.

Best buy: Premium tequila—GDL is in the heart of tequila country. Look for 100% agave labels.

Both lounges offer decent tequila selections—fitting for Jalisco.

Hotels near GDL are along the airport corridor. Most visitors stay in Zona Chapultepec, Centro Histórico, or Tlaquepaque.
