About
ITA Airways (Italia Trasporto Aereo) is the flag carrier of Italy, launched in October 2021 as the successor to the bankrupt Alitalia. Headquartered in Rome, the airline operates a modern fleet focused on Airbus aircraft, serving destinations across Europe, North America, South America, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.
In January 2025, Lufthansa Group acquired a 41% stake in ITA Airways, marking a major turning point for the airline. As part of this partnership, ITA left SkyTeam in April 2025 and is set to join Star Alliance in the first half of 2026. Rome Fiumicino (FCO) will become Lufthansa Group's sixth hub, enhancing connectivity to Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East. The airline is led by CEO Jorg Eberhart, formerly of Air Dolomiti.
ITA Airways distinguishes itself with its signature "azzurro" (Savoy blue) livery, Italian hospitality, and cuisine crafted by Michelin-starred chefs in Business Class. The carrier offers three cabin classes on long-haul flights: Business, Premium Economy, and Economy.
