Tips & Tricks

Booking:

  • Book directly on koreanair.com for best service during disruptions
  • SKYPASS award chart is fixed - no dynamic pricing, but limited availability
  • Prestige Suites 2.0 only on 787-10 and retrofitted 777s - check aircraft type before booking

At the Airport:

  • ICN Terminal 2 is the SkyTeam terminal - Korean Air operates from there
  • Allow extra time at ICN - immigration can be lengthy during peak hours
  • GMP is faster and closer to Seoul for domestic and Northeast Asia routes

Baggage:

  • 7-10 kg carry-on limits are enforced - weigh your bag before departure
  • Americas routes get 2 free checked bags in Economy - better than most airlines
  • Pre-purchase excess baggage online for savings

Upgrades:

  • Operational upgrades are rare; cash upgrades sometimes offered at check-in
  • SKYPASS miles can upgrade within the same fare family
  • Morning Calm Premium status unlocks upgrade priority

Earning Miles:

  • Sign up for SKYPASS before your first flight - miles cannot be claimed retroactively
  • SkyTeam partners earn SKYPASS miles at varying rates
  • Korean Air credit cards are the best way to earn without flying (not a transferable currency partner)

Asiana Transition:

  • Asiana Club miles can transfer to SKYPASS at 1:1 (partner miles at 0.82:1)
  • Asiana routes will eventually operate under Korean Air codes
  • Full integration expected January 2027

Common Issues:

  • Wi-Fi can be spotty on older aircraft
  • Weight limits strictly enforced - pack light for carry-on
  • Some older 777s have dated hard product - new Prestige Suites 2.0 is the upgrade
