About
Ariana Afghan Airlines is the flag carrier of Afghanistan, founded in 1955 with assistance from Pan American World Airways. Headquartered in Kabul, it is one of Central Asia's oldest airlines and represents Afghanistan's primary connection to the outside world.
The airline operates from its hub at Hamid Karzai International Airport (KBL) in Kabul. Ariana has no alliance membership and operates independently with a limited route network focused on connecting Afghanistan to key destinations in the Middle East, South Asia, and Turkey.
Operations have been significantly affected by the political situation since August 2021. The airline continues to operate under the current administration but with substantial operational limitations. Ariana is subject to a European Union air safety ban, prohibiting it from operating within EU airspace. This restricts the airline's ability to expand westward and affects its operational flexibility.
