About
Malmö Aviation ceased independent operations in March 2016, merging with Sverigeflyg to form Braathens Regional Airlines (BRA). The TF IATA code was retained by BRA. This guide provides historical information about the Swedish domestic airline that served business travelers for over three decades.
Malmö Aviation was a Swedish regional airline founded in 1981, initially operating as a flight training school and air charter company based in Malmö. The airline grew to become Sweden's leading independent domestic carrier and the largest operator at Stockholm Bromma Airport (BMA), providing an alternative to SAS for business travelers connecting Sweden's major cities.
The airline was particularly known for its focus on the Swedish business travel market, offering convenient schedules between Stockholm Bromma and regional cities including Gothenburg, Malmö, Umeå, and Luleå. Bromma Airport's proximity to central Stockholm (just 7 km from the city center) made Malmö Aviation especially attractive to time-conscious business travelers compared to the more distant Arlanda Airport.
In August 1998, Malmö Aviation was acquired by Norwegian carrier Braathens ASA and briefly operated as Braathens Malmö Aviation. Following SAS's acquisition of Braathens in 2002, Malmö Aviation was spun off to Braganza AS, and the airline reverted to its original name. Under Braganza's ownership, the airline continued to develop its domestic network and maintained its reputation for reliable, business-focused service.
