Jamaica

Visa-free for US, UK, EU, Canada, and most Western countries (90 days)

Overview

Jamaica is one of the Caribbean's most popular tourist destinations, attracting millions of visitors annually with its beaches, reggae music, and vibrant culture. The island nation lies south of Cuba and west of Hispaniola, making it a convenient destination from the US East Coast and Canada.

The country has two main international airports. Montego Bay (MBJ) is the primary tourist gateway, handling the majority of international arrivals and serving the north coast resort areas. Kingston (KIN) serves the capital city and is more business-oriented. Jamaica has no major flag carrier currently, but is well-served by US, Canadian, and European airlines catering to the strong leisure travel market.

US Dollar is widely accepted throughout Jamaica alongside the Jamaican Dollar, making transactions convenient for American visitors.

Primary Airports

Montego Bay (MBJ) — Sir Donald Sangster International Airport is Jamaica's busiest airport and the main entry point for tourists. Located on the north coast, it provides convenient access to popular resort areas including Negril (1.5 hours), Ocho Rios (1.5 hours), and the immediate Montego Bay area. The airport handles over 4 million passengers annually with extensive connections to the US, Canada, and UK.

Kingston (KIN) — Norman Manley International Airport serves Jamaica's capital city on the southeastern coast. More focused on business travel and the Jamaican diaspora, it sees fewer tourists but maintains good connections to major US cities and other Caribbean destinations. Located about 30 minutes from downtown Kingston.

Regional Airports

  • Tinson Pen (KTP) — Small domestic airport in Kingston for inter-island flights
  • Negril Aerodrome (NEG) — Small airstrip serving private charters to the west coast resort area
