Introduction
Changsha Huanghua International Airport (CSX) is the primary airport serving Changsha, the capital of Hunan province in south-central China. Located 25 km east of downtown Changsha, CSX is the busiest airport in central China and the 12th busiest in the country, handling over 25 million passengers annually. The airport serves as a hub for China Southern Airlines and Hainan Airlines.
The airport has two terminals:
- Terminal 1 (T1): Reopened in 2018 after renovation, with 32,000 square meters of space across three concourses (T1-A, T1-B, T1-C). Handles domestic flights for Air China, Shenzhen Airlines, Shandong Airlines, Chengdu Airlines, Kunming Airlines, Okay Airways, Joy Air, and Tibet Airlines.
- Terminal 2 (T2): The main terminal, opened in 2011. At 213,000 square meters, it handles most domestic flights plus all international services. China Southern, Hainan Airlines, Xiamen Airlines, and international carriers operate from T2.
Key feature: CSX is notable for its Maglev Express connection, China's first domestically-built magnetic levitation train, linking the airport to Changsha South Railway Station in just 19 minutes.
Gateway to Zhangjiajie: Changsha is the most convenient major hub for reaching Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, famous as the inspiration for the floating mountains in the film Avatar. High-speed trains connect Changsha South to Zhangjiajie West in 2-3 hours.
