About
Operations Suspended: Go First suspended all flight operations on May 3, 2023, after filing for voluntary insolvency resolution proceedings with the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT). The suspension was triggered by persistent engine supply issues with Pratt & Whitney, which left over half the fleet grounded. The airline remains in insolvency proceedings with an uncertain future. The information below reflects the airline's services prior to suspension.
Go First (formerly GoAir) was one of India's oldest low-cost carriers and the fifth-largest airline in the country prior to its suspension. Founded in 2005 by the Wadia Group, owners of Bombay Dyeing and one of India's oldest business conglomerates, the airline operated for nearly 18 years before its financial collapse.
Headquartered in Mumbai, Go First operated a fleet of over 50 Airbus A320neo family aircraft from hubs at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM) and Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL). At its peak, the airline served 36 domestic destinations and 9 international destinations across the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Central Asia, carrying approximately 15 million passengers annually.
The airline was not part of any global alliance but positioned itself as a value-focused carrier offering competitive fares with included checked baggage, distinguishing itself from ultra-low-cost competitors.

Tips & Tricks
Understanding Current Status:
- Go First has not ceased to exist legally - it remains in insolvency proceedings
- Multiple parties have expressed interest in revival/acquisition
- The airline's Air Operator Certificate (AOC) is suspended but not cancelled
- Monitor official NCLT announcements and aviation ministry updates
- Any revival would likely require new ownership and fleet restructuring
For Passengers with Unused Tickets:
- File claims through the official insolvency process
- Contact credit card companies for potential chargebacks (time limits apply)
- Review travel insurance policies for coverage
- Document all booking confirmations and payment receipts
- Tickets booked through agents may have different recovery processes
For Former Go First Rewards Members:
- Keep your membership number and records
- Points and status theoretically preserved but inaccessible
- Any revival would need to address loyalty member claims
- No action needed to maintain account currently
Alternative Airlines for Former Go First Routes:
| Route Type | Alternative Carriers |
|---|---|
| Domestic India | IndiGo (6E), Air India Express (IX), SpiceJet (SG), Akasa Air (QP) |
| Gulf (Dubai, Abu Dhabi) | IndiGo, Air India Express, Emirates (EK), flydubai (FZ), Air Arabia (G9) |
| Thailand (Bangkok, Phuket) | IndiGo, Thai AirAsia (FD), Thai Lion Air (SL) |
| Central Asia | Air Astana (KC), Uzbekistan Airways (HY), IndiGo |
If Operations Resume:
- Expect significant changes to route network and fleet
- Service standards and policies likely to differ from pre-suspension
- Verify all policies on official website before booking
- Consider booking flexibility options
- Loyalty program restoration uncertain
