About

Operations Suspended: Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) suspended all flights on February 24, 2022, when Ukrainian airspace was closed following Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The airline remains legally active and plans to resume operations when conditions allow. The information below reflects the airline's services prior to suspension.

Ukraine International Airlines is the flag carrier and largest airline of Ukraine. Founded in 1992 shortly after Ukrainian independence, UIA grew to become a significant regional carrier connecting Ukraine with Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and North America.

Prior to suspension, UIA operated a fleet of over 40 aircraft from its main hub at Boryspil International Airport (KBP), serving more than 40 destinations across four continents. The airline carried approximately 8 million passengers in 2019, its peak year. UIA was in discussions to join the SkyTeam alliance but never finalized membership.

The airline maintained a reputation for reliable service connecting the Ukrainian diaspora with their homeland, particularly routes to major cities in Europe, the United States, Canada, and Israel.

Tips & Tricks

Understanding Current Status:

  • UIA has not ceased to exist - operations are suspended due to the conflict
  • The airline plans to resume when Ukrainian airspace reopens
  • Monitor flyuia.com and official announcements for updates
  • SkyTeam discussions may resume post-conflict

For Former Panorama Club Members:

  • Keep your membership number and records
  • Miles and status should be preserved for when operations resume
  • No action needed to maintain account currently

Historical Booking Tips (For Future Reference):

  • Economy Light fares had significant restrictions - Classic/Flex often better value
  • KBP Terminal D was the hub - allow time for connections
  • Online check-in opened 48 hours early (more than most airlines)
  • Business Class on 767s offered good value on transatlantic routes

Alternative Routes: While UIA is suspended, travelers to/from Ukraine have limited options:

  • Land border crossings remain primary method for civilian travel
  • Some neighboring country airlines (LOT, Wizz Air) serve border cities
  • Direct flights to Ukraine not available from any carrier

Supporting Ukraine:

  • UIA is part of Ukraine's national infrastructure
  • Following the airline's social media keeps you informed of developments
  • The airline's workforce is largely retained, awaiting resumption

When Operations Resume:

  • Expect high demand for flights
  • Panorama Club members may receive priority booking
  • Fleet and route network may differ from pre-war configuration
  • Check updated policies as significant changes are likely
