About
TAAG Angola Airlines is the flag carrier of Angola and the country's largest airline, founded in 1938. Originally known as DTA (Divisao de Exploracao dos Transportes Aereos), the airline was renamed TAAG (Transportes Aereos de Angola) in 1973. Headquartered in Luanda, TAAG operates a mixed fleet of Boeing 787 Dreamliners, Boeing 777s, Boeing 737s, Airbus A220s, and De Havilland Dash 8 turboprops.
TAAG holds a unique position connecting Angola to Portuguese-speaking nations, with strong ties to Portugal and Brazil. The airline operates daily flights to Lisbon and seasonal service to Porto, capitalizing on the historical and cultural connections between Angola and its former colonial ruler. TAAG is one of only four airlines directly linking Brazil to Sub-Saharan Africa, serving Sao Paulo alongside Ethiopian Airlines, South African Airways, and LATAM.
TAAG is not a member of any major airline alliance but maintains codeshare agreements with TAP Air Portugal and other carriers. The airline has undergone significant modernization, introducing Boeing 787 Dreamliners in 2025 to replace its aging 777 fleet and Airbus A220s to succeed the older 737-700s.
