About

Azul Brazilian Airlines is Brazil's largest domestic airline by number of cities served and the third largest by passengers carried. Founded in 2008 by David Neeleman (also founder of JetBlue), the airline started operations in December 2008 with a mission to bring affordable air travel to underserved Brazilian markets. The name "Azul" means "blue" in Portuguese and was chosen through a public naming contest.

Headquartered in Barueri, a suburb of Sao Paulo, Azul operates one of the most modern fleets in South America, including Airbus A330neo, A350, A320neo, A321neo, and Embraer E195-E2 aircraft. The airline serves approximately 150 destinations across Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, the United States, and Europe. Azul has strategic partnerships with United Airlines and American Airlines, allowing reciprocal frequent flyer benefits.

Azul is not a member of any global airline alliance but maintains codeshare agreements with United Airlines, TAP Portugal, and Copa Airlines.
